Position Summary:
The Vice President, Engineering & Product Development is responsible for leading the engineering organization and product development process across the 3LED platform. This executive is accountable for transforming market-driven product requirements into high-quality, manufacturable products that are delivered on time, on budget and ready for commercial success. The role owns engineering execution, engineering talent, engineering systems and product development. Product strategy, portfolio management and product requirements are owned by the VP, Sales & Marketing. Intellectual property strategy is led by the Chief IP Officer. The Vice President partners closely with Sales & Marketing, Operations and the Chief IP Officer to deliver products that strengthen 3LED’s competitive position across its portfolio of brands.

The position reports directly to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership:
  • Build and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary engineering organization.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop engineering leaders and technical talent.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Develop organizational capability to support long-term growth.

Product Development: Lead the execution of new product development from approved product requirements through commercial production.

Responsibilities include:
  • Mechanical Engineering.
  • Electrical Engineering.
  • Optical Engineering.
  • Embedded Hardware and Firmware (where applicable).
  • Product Validation and Testing.
  • Product Documentation.
  • Product Release.
  • Engineering support for sustaining products.
  • Ensure every product is designed for performance, manufacturability, quality and cost competitiveness.

Engineering Systems: Develop scalable engineering processes that support multiple brands and future acquisitions.

Responsibilities include:
  • Product Data Management (PDM).
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
  • Engineering standards.
  • Engineering change management.
  • Design reviews.
  • Stage-gate development process.
  • Product documentation.
  • Engineering metrics and KPIs.

Manufacturing Partnership:
Work closely with Operations to ensure products transition smoothly into production.

Drive:
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Product cost optimization.
  • Reliability improvements.
  • Manufacturing readiness.
  • Continuous improvement.

Executive Collaboration:
Partner with executive peers to ensure alignment across the business.
Collaborate closely with:
  • VP, Sales & Marketing.
  • VP, Operations.
  • Chief IP Officer.
  • Finance.
  • Manufacturing.
  • Supply Chain.
  • Quality.

The VP, Engineering & Product Development is expected to provide technical leadership while executing against clearly defined market and product requirements.

Experience:
Required:
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering leadership.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations.
  • Strong background in product development for manufactured products.
  • Demonstrated success building engineering teams and systems.
  • Experience with DFM, DFA and product lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing environments.
Preferred:
  • Experience in lighting, electronics, photonics or industrial products.
  • Experience implementing PLM/PDM systems.
  • Experience with configurable or engineered-to-order products.
  • Experience supporting multiple brands or business units.

Compensation:
  • Base Salary: $225,000–250,000.
  • Annual Performance Bonus.
  • Participation in the 3LED Employee Equity Incentive Plan.
