Electrical Engineer – Lighting Systems & Controls

Xico Lighting – Woburn, MA
Full-Time | Engineering Team

About the Role

Xico Lighting is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer – Lighting Systems & Controls to support the electrical design, integration, testing, and production of our architectural LED lighting systems.
This role sits at the intersection of product engineering, manufacturing, and application support. You will be responsible for ensuring that LED drivers, power supplies, control systems, wiring, and related electrical components are properly selected, integrated, documented, and supported throughout the product lifecycle.
The ideal candidate has a background in electrical or electronics engineering and enjoys applying that knowledge to real products. You should be equally comfortable evaluating a driver specification, working with a controls vendor, creating a wiring diagram, and helping a production technician troubleshoot a fixture on the manufacturing floor.

What You’ll Do

LED Drivers, Power Supplies & Controls

  • Evaluate and select LED drivers, power supplies, control components, and related electrical hardware for Xico lighting products.
  • Work directly with driver and controls manufacturers to identify and qualify components that meet product performance, functionality, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support integration of common architectural lighting control protocols and technologies, including 0–10V, DALI, DMX, phase dimming, and wireless/networked control systems.
  • Evaluate electrical compatibility between LED light engines, drivers, controls, sensors, and other system components.
  • Support development of solutions for tunable white, dim-to-warm, dynamic lighting, and other advanced lighting applications.
  • Maintain awareness of new driver, controls, and power-supply technologies that could improve product performance, functionality, cost, or manufacturability.

Product Engineering & Development

  • Work with the product development team to define the electrical architecture of new and existing lighting products.
  • Develop electrical requirements and specifications for drivers, power supplies, controls, wiring, connectors, and related components.
  • Build and test prototypes to validate electrical performance and control functionality.
  • Perform electrical testing and troubleshooting during product development and qualification.
  • Support UL/ETL and other applicable safety and regulatory certification activities.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve technical issues and qualify new or alternate electrical components.

Manufacturing & Technician Support

  • Provide hands-on electrical engineering support to production technicians assembling and testing Xico lighting products.
  • Develop clear wiring methods, assembly instructions, and electrical test procedures for manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot wiring, driver, controls, and electrical performance issues on the production floor.
  • Develop practical test fixtures and methods for validating fixture operation during production.
  • Train and support technicians on electrical assembly, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Work with Quality and Manufacturing teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions for electrical issues.

Wiring Diagrams & Technical Documentation

  • Create and maintain fixture wiring diagrams, schematics, connection diagrams, and other electrical documentation.
  • Develop clear wiring and installation documentation for production teams, field technicians, electrical contractors, and customers.
  • Maintain electrical component specifications and approved component information.
  • Support creation of technical documentation for drivers, controls, sensors, emergency systems, and other electrical options.
  • Ensure electrical documentation accurately reflects released product configurations and manufacturing requirements.

Field & Application Support

  • Support Customer Service, Sales, and Engineering with technical questions involving fixture wiring, drivers, dimming, and controls.
  • Assist in troubleshooting field issues involving electrical installation, control compatibility, or fixture operation.
  • Work with electrical contractors, controls manufacturers, and other technical partners when necessary to resolve application issues.
  • Help translate complex electrical and controls requirements into practical solutions that can be manufactured, installed, and supported reliably.

What Makes You a Strong Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Practical understanding of AC and DC electrical systems, power supplies, electronic drivers, wiring, and controls.
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Hands-on approach to engineering and troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power meters, and related instrumentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to systematically troubleshoot electrical and controls issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, engineers, production technicians, electrical contractors, and customers.
  • Organized and capable of creating clear technical documentation.
Experience with LED lighting, LED drivers, architectural lighting controls, UL-listed products, or electrical product manufacturing is strongly preferred.
Experience with 0–10V, DALI, DMX, wireless lighting controls, sensors, emergency lighting systems, or similar building-control technologies is a plus.

Why Join Xico

  • Work directly on industry-leading architectural lighting products combining advanced optical, electrical, and controls technologies.
  • Have a visible impact on products from early development through production and field installation.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers rather than being limited to a narrow engineering function.
  • Help define and improve Xico's electrical engineering, documentation, and testing standards as the company grows.
  • Join a fast-growing organization where engineers are encouraged to take ownership and turn ideas into real products.
